Peter
Black - Bio Information
After
working for years in clubs and bands and being a very successful
musician, Peter Black is now emerging as one of Northern New England's
favorite singer-songwriters. His debut CD, "When
Trouble Comes" showcases his rich and resonant voice, his superb
songwriting and guitar skills, and should go a long way toward lifting
him out of the comfortable steady-gig club grind, and more into
the spotlight of the concert and coffeehouse world.
Unlike a lot of the new faces in the songwriter circuit, Black has
a long history as a working musician, and an impressive musical
resumé. He sang, played bass and guitar in R& B and soul
bands for many years before deciding to go the solo acoustic route,
as evidenced by his rock-solid guitar work and mature rhythmic sense.
But his powerful and versatile voice is what really sets him apart
from the rest. In the songwriter scene, now so full of beginners
and wobbly, unsure vocals, Black's distinctive voice is seasoned,
strong and refreshing. He is completely at home with a Jimmy Cliff,
Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley or Motown song, but mixes the pop-rock-soul
flavor of his New Jersey roots very effectively with a strong dose
of the modern singer-songwriters like Lyle Lovett, John Prine and
John Hiatt. Black's well-crafted, thoughtful and catchy original
songs are becoming a big part of his repertoire, but he can always
thrill any audience with his huge repertoire of songs drawn from
pop, rock, folk, country, soul and blues influences.
The coffeehouse world is made all the richer by a talent like Peter
Black, who is as fully capable a singer and song stylist as ever
played Las Vegas, but who has chosen instead to work in the intimate
and honest world of the folk troubadours. Keep an ear open for him-
he is a mature artist on the way up, and once you hear him you will
understand why the word about him is spreading fast.
